Rumor: Microsoft to Go 3D Way with Xbox 360

Going 3D is one of the hottest trends in the tech industry nowadays and Microsoft does not want to be left behind. According to the company's Israeli research and development team, Microsoft is currently in the process of developing software update which will allow the console to go HD stereoscopic 3D. The team had posted this bit of information via its Hebrew language Twitter account. We are willing to take the tweet at its face value, as let's admit it the idea of 3D Xbox 360 is just awesome and also that the rumor has been generated by the company itself.

In any case, the idea of 3D Xbox 360 is not new. In fact, many of us were expecting the company to unveil the feature during E3. Well, that did not happen and of course, we are disappointed, but this new rumor has given us a tiny sliver of hope. By the way, the console is having a great run, even in its 2D mode. Its US sales increased 39 percent during the month of April and retained the top spot.

We have been hearing about 3D rumors for more than a year now. So, what could be the reason for delay? It may be a technical reason like the company trying to polish the software or it may be simply a sales paradigm. Just a couple of months back, the company's Aaron Greenberg said, "The question is whether or not the consumer demand is there. That’s the unanswered question. We’re not a consumer electronics company that’s trying to sell 3DTVs, so we have the benefit of waiting until the market responds.” Well, Microsoft does have a point here. So far, the only gaming console with 3D aspect is Nintendo 3DS and the handheld device is have a lukewarm sales performance. Anyways, we are still going to keep hoping that Microsoft will release its 3D version real soon.
