Apple Prepping New MacBook Air For Wednesday

Internet rumours a picking up pace today that suggests that Apple will introduce a new version of its ultra-thin MacBook Air.

The rumours are originating from Chronic who is a serial Apple product leaker and reckons that the new refresh will hit Apple stores on Wednesday.

Chronic tweeted that he was "100% sure the you'll see a new version of the ultra-thin laptop on Wednesday.

The ubiquitous Tuesday meetings will be taking place in Apple stores which usually signals that staff need to be brought up to speed on new products that will launch on the Wednesday.

The new MacBook Air is expected to be a evolution rather than revolution. It is expected to remain the same size, but is thought to include Intel's Sandy Bridge processors and the super-fast Thunderbird I/O port.

The rumours comes after reports that Apple has placed an order for 400,000 new MacBook Airs to be produced during the month of June.

Concord securities analyst Ming Chi-Kou told AppleInsider that production on the 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch models will be ongoing this month.

The analyst also said that Apple plans to wind down production of the existing MacBook Air models in the immediate future, and it will only produce 80,000 units of the old model this month, bringing the total number of MacBook Air units being produced for Apple this month comes to around 460,000 units.

Apple's MacBook Air product line, with an entry level price of $999, has been extremely successful for the company.

With the launch of the iCloud service, faster SSDs, Sandy Bridge processor and Thunderbolt data transfer technology, Apple seems to have a winning combination in its hands for the MacBook Air.

Updated MacBook Airs make a lot of sense after Apple’s announcement of its new iCloud service. The notebook is clearly designed to be portable and in some cases considered an iPad alternative.

Some people are saying that pairing the device’s smaller capacity, faster flash storage with iCloud’s wireless data syncing and Lion’s iOS-like features may turn out to be Apple’s next big thing.
