Nintendo Admits To Using Other Consoles Footage In WiiU Unveiling

Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime has admitted the Nintendo were using footage from other consoles when showing off third party support for the new console.

Reggie did admit that the videos featured were stocked footage taken from PS3 games and Xbox 360.

Asked directly whether the footage was recycled from other consoles, Fils-Aime replied: “Absolutely, because we’re talking a year away from when the system’s going to launch.” Pushed further, he claimed that the graphics were representative of what will be achievable on the console.

“In terms of how good it looks, it’s going to be driven by what the individual developers do,” he clarified. “It’s going to be 1080p, it’s going to be high definition. You’re going to see games that take full advantage of a system that has the latest technology and can push out some incredible graphics.”

Nintendo’s share price has hit its lowest value in five years following the unveiling of the Wii U device as investors weren’t totally convinced by the unveiling.

According to Bloomberg, which noted a 7.5 per cent drop in the price to ¥16,610 (around £125). More than 1.67 million shares changed hands yesterday, compared to the daily average of 724,000.

“There were high expectations from the new version of the Wii and this fell far short,” said analyst Yusuke Tsunoda.

Nintendo's unveiling of their new console focused solely on the on the controller, with little or no information about the actual consoles given yet.

It's not the first time the console makers have borrowed footage from other consoles when it comes to marketing. Microsoft was told off buy the advertising standard authority for using PS3 footage for Final Fantasy when the marketed the game on television.

According to Nintendo the console is still in prototype phase and could change over time, and this is why the new console hasn’t got a finished look, hence why it wasn’t shown off properly but using footage from other consoles was a sneaky move however you look at it.

Other slightly worrying news has come to light after the conference which suggests that the new console will indeed come with one controller - but strangley you won't be able to buy more controllers seperatley for it - instead Ninty are suggesting the other players would use the Wii remote.
