With Apple's WWDC just around the corner the rumour mill is in full swing, and today's latest whispers suggest that Apple and Twitter are going to strike up a new partnership for Apple's new iOS 5.

Various reports are suggesting that Twitter are about to release their own photo-sharing service - like yFrog or instagram - but the plot thickens, as reports are surfacing that Twitter wants Apple as key partner for the upcoming service.

There are, of course, numerous popular third-party image services that cater for twitter users to uses when they want to attached videos and pictures to their tweets - but Twitter wants to gain control of this burgeoning market and hopes their new service can achieve a more consistent user experience. And it could be a vital revenue stream for Twitter as they don't actually make any.

Multiple sources have said that Apple's soon to be announced iOS 5 will have the new image service "baked directly into the iOS" with a "send to twitter" option similar to the way Youtube is intergrated into iOS5.

Many commentators are also now thinking that the new version of iOS 5 could also come with even more Twitter integration – don’t be surprised if you start seeing dynamic feeds on the homepage with Twitter and Facebook being be a major part of this - much like the dynamic feeds that have been the main selling point of Windows Mobile 7.

If Twitter sharing was added at a system level, you could see some nifty features like the ability to switch between texts and tweets in the Messages app and share links to Twitter directly from Safari.

As usual, Apple is keeping schtum but we've only got to wait until Monday to find out what goodies it's got in store for us with iOS 5. In the meantime, hit the comments and let us know whether Twitter integration would matter to you.

WWDC kicks off Monday, June 6 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. In addition to iOS 5, Apple will present Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and introduce its new iCloud service.

Last month, sources told AppleInsider that the iCloud service, which is expected to replace the existing MobileMe product, will store more than just music. Apple is rumored to be pursuing licensing deals with movie and TV studios for the forthcoming service.
