Google finally unveiled its mobile payment service yesterday and now the company has been slapped hard by PayPal for stealing its secret. PayPal alleged that the internet search giant's new payment system is based on the trade secrets belonging to PayPal. The Ebay payment company said that its technology was stolen by Osama Bedier, who now works as vice president of payments with Google. PayPal also framed Google's Stephanie Tilenius.
PayPal stated that Bedier worked with the firm for nine year, while Tilenius's tenure extended from 2001 to 2009, though she kept working as a consultant till March 2010. The story gets pretty interesting as Tilenius is now accused of hiring Bedier, breaking her contract with PayPal.
Bedier is also accused of trying to lure away other PayPal executives. During his tenure with PayPal, Bedier was responsible for negotiating with Google. He is also accused of misappropriating "PayPal trade secrets by disclosing them within Google and to major retailers”. PayPal claims that while Bedier was carrying out business negotiations with Google, he was also interviewing for a job with Google.
Google and PayPal had been working closely for developing a payment platform for Android operating system. But seems like Google found it more feasible to just poach a couple of key executives from PayPal and go solo.
PayPal has also listed 50 other individuals as defendants and the suit has been filed with Superior Court of the State of California. Google refused to issue any comment on the suit.
