Microsoft is mighty busy nowadays, what with updating mobile operating system as well as desktop OS and not to mention tablet development. While, Ballmer provided some wee details about Windows 8, he gave clearer picture of the company's mobile operating system. Windows Phone 7 update, which will officially be considered Windows Phone 7.5, will come in Mango flavor. Microsoft boss also stressed that the update will bring about more than 500 new features.
The update is currently in the beta mode and though we are not going to enumerate all the 500 new features, we are going to give you a glimpse of the things to come. Mango is currently available to app developers, so expect new better optimized apps to hit the app store. The update will offer better and tighter integration with Bing and Microsoft Outlook. Earlier, Ballmer had also alluded that the OS will also offer integration with Windows Live Messenger.
The new update will also make use of Microsoft cloud service, SkyDrive. Cloud computing is gaining ground and Apple is already working on its own cloud service, so it is about time Microsoft too start working in this direction. Apart from this, the update will also support Facebook integration and visual voicemail.
Mango is expected to be formally launched by the end of this year. Microsoft recently collaborated with Nokia for launching a portfolio of Windows Phone 7 handsets. According to the rumors, Nokia is waiting for the next iteration to be out before launching the new phones.
Microsoft hit quite a few rough spots when it had to broadcast a pre-update update for its software. We just hope that this time Microsoft gets everything right and does not commit the update blunder again.
