Microsoft Follows iOS Naming Convention: Mango is Now WP 7.5

Microsoft seems to have sided with Apple when it comes to naming the operating systems update. Apple, the ultra modern company which likes to keep things streamlined and squeaky clean, uses simple number progression for its iOS variants, whereas rival Google goes to a great length following English alphabet and coming up with delicious dessert names for its Android flavors. A little slip up at Redmond has pointed that Microsoft is after all, going to christen its Mango flavored OS as simply Windows Phone 7.5.

The new update will bring quite a few changes to the mobile OS such as true multitasking facility. We just hope it does not bring back the disastrous memories of the recent pre-update update which went through a bumpier-than-usual transmission path. Though, it will also bring mobile browser IE9 and access to a SQL database features. Microsoft is looking to release the SDK for it in early May and is likely to be released for manufacturer's consumption some time in August or September this year.

Microsoft is also working on Windows 8 version for supplanting its successful Windows 7 operating system. Reportedly, Windows 8 is expected to be a lot more touchscreen friendly. The company also recently said that it would not be entering into tablet field until or unless it has something unique to offer. Since it is highly unlikely that the tech behemoth will simply stay away from very attractive tablet segment, it is safe to assume that it should be working on both hardware and software aspects of the tablet to come up with something unique.

The new moniker also seems to suggest that Microsoft is ultimately looking to merge its desktop and mobile operating systems. So far, we have got to see some leaked pictures and specs of the new desktop OS and it certainly looks promising. However, its real worth can only be assessed after using it. After all, even catastrophic OS such as Windows Vista was pretty fine on the aesthetics front.
