At the moment the vast majority of people are undecided on whether or not they need/want a tablet in their life. Research shows that very slowly consumers are beginning to replace their laptops and netbooks with tablets but the figures are small at the moment and it seems that currently people are still a bit uncomfortable about giving up the keyboard. Plus there's the fact that a powerful laptop is probably cheaper than a high-end tablet which won't reach anywhere near what the laptop can.
But in years to come the tablet industry will be on fire and everyone will have a tablet, In fact we'll probably have two. According to the latest predictions, by 2015 150 million tablets will have have been sold worldwide creating $49 billion worth of global revenue. This would bump the tech up to number three in the league of biggest selling consumer goods behind TVs and PCs.
It's easy to imagine the use of the tablet computer. The shape and size alone is infinitely useful. Along with the general public who are attracted to the playful aspect of the tablet computer, the professional industry could lap them up too. Students, journalists, teachers, medical staff etc could just slip it neatly into their bag and slide it out when they need quick web access, access to a documents etc etc.
Then there's the touchscreen, people are still a bit unsure at the moment, but its incredibly fun and useful. It gets rid of the bulky mouse and keyboard and opens the door to user friendly features like those photo galleries that you literally flick through with your fingers.
What about you? Where do you think the tablet will go?
