Windows Phone 7 On Its Way To Mobile OS #2 Spot?

There's nothing like a cheeky fool's joke to start April but raising Micrsoft's hopes is a bit harsh. All the other analysts in the world are predicting increased growth in Android and iOS with RIM slightly behind and Windows Phone 7 nowhere to be seen. But one analyst, IDC, is predicting that Microsoft’s mobile operating system will trump Apple iOS and Research in Motion’s BlackBerry for the number two spot by 2015. It seems absolutely unbelievable. But let's hear them out.”Up until the launch of Windows Phone 7 last year, Microsoft has steadily lost market share while other operating systems have brought forth new and appealing experiences.”

“The new alliance brings together Nokia’s hardware capabilities and Windows Phone’s differentiated platform. We expect the first devices to launch in 2012. By 2015, Ramon Llamas from IDC expects Windows Phone to be number 2 operating system worldwide behind Android.”

As one hilarious blogger asked "What is he smoking?" indeed, what is he smoking? Windows Phone 7 has done nothing since its release but once you stop questioning Llama's thinking and take a step back you think could he be right? It's easy to laugh now but he's right about the Nokia partnership that's got to do Microsoft some good.

When Android first came out we would have probably guffawed at anyone hailing it as the future king of the OS but yet there it sits on its throne. It's an unpredictable market and ultimately who really cares? The more popular the OS the more money the companies get. It doesn't particularly affect us as consumers. In fact the more vicious the fight for the top the more effort goes into pleasing us who ultimately decide the fate of an OS.
