All the smart ar**s say, "Oh it won't be long until no one uses camera because they'll be all built into phones." Well they are right. You'd be hard pushed to find a phone without a camera these days. But the problem for these dreamers is that the quality of mobile phone cameras leave a lot to be desired to say the least. But things (although slowly) are changing. Take the Nokia N8 for example it's 12-megapixel camera is not only better than all the other mobiles out there but it's actually even better than some digital cameras. Thanks to Renowned aerial photographer Jason Hawkes we have a glimpse into the true power of the N8 Hawkes travelled around Britain in a helicopter, taking aerial photographs of landmarks using Nokia N8 smartphone. Below are the results which are quite frankly stunning.
Not only does this show that phone cameras can actually produce amazing results but it's also a nice bit of publicity for Nokia who have taken a pasting recently.

So what does this mean for the future of cameras? Pros are always going to prefer standalone cameras but Hawke’s has opened up all whole new world of photography. Now that we can see that a camera phone is not just for blurry pictures of drunks in nightclubs hopefully smartphones will take a leaf out of Nokia’s book and start taking camera quality seriously. In fact I wonder what the iPhone 5 camera will be like. Any ideas?
