Last week Facebook introduced a new feature to its ever-burgeoning portfolio with the announcement of Facebook Credits, a form of Facebook money, that can be used to buy content within a Facebook communities.
Well it seems as if Facebook has already begun to roll out an early beta of a currency system, known as Facebook Credits. Users can't use credits to buy a pair of shoes (yet), but they can use them to reward their friends for posting interesting status updates and other content through Facebook.
More Interestingly Facebook and Warner Brothers are combing to offer Facebook users the chance to rent movies from within Facebook and you pay for these films using the newly launched Facebook credits.
The first titles on offer and the superb Dark Knight, Inception, Harry Potter, Yogi Bear and Life As We Know It.
The titles are only available to rent through the corresponding Facebook page and are available to watch up to 48 hour after purchase, there's no word on quality or whether they come in High Def.
At the moment they’re only available in the US at the moment, but don’t be surprised if some film companies see this a risk free distribution channel, for more independent productions.
But this could be the first steps for film studios offering more ways to watch films and hopefully in time a different ways to watch films rather than going to the cinema on the day of release which they should be doing if they think piracy is such a problem.
There's no official word on any upcoming titles, but we're sure that Warner will be adding this functionality to the movies in its catalog which have a significant Facebook following. Again, all of this is available only to consumers in the U.S.
