Sir Steve Jobs, how does that sound? Apparently, Steve Jobs was slated to receive honorary knighthood in 2009, but the proposalwas turned down by the then Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The Telegraph has claimed that Jobs had made to the final stage of knighthood but Gordon Brown nicked the idea as Jobs had previously turned down an invitation to address a Labor Party meeting. Seems like, Steve Jobs had to pay a big price for that one refusal.
The Telegraph has cited an unnamed Labor Party member who said that Jobs was to be knighted for his company's capability "to create stunning consumer products because it has always taken design as the key component of everything it has produced.” It seems that Steve Jobs was aware of the proceedings. Knighting Steve Jobs would not have been an unprecedented move. Bill Gates was bestowed honorary knighthood in 2005. Well, Microsoft managed to beat Apple in at least one area.

It looks like providence was not on Steve Jobs side that time.
