Smartphones. They're very clever. You can watch TV, organise your social life and entertain you. But there not that clever really, they can't do your job, they can't do your tax returns and they can't get you home at night in a drunken state - or can they?
Uber taxi is a new iPhone and Android app that has been the in the spotlight quite a bit in the US and is set to launch in the UK.
What it does is create a direct line to a fleet of Taxi's - once you got the app - it allows you to book a taxi from you current location using GPS and charges the journey to your account - so you don't have any money on your or have to stop at a cash point to pay for your journey.
Drivers in the area with Uber will then be able to accept your request and you can then add in your destination. The cost of the cab is automatically charged to your account.
At the moment Uber only plans to launch in the capital - but we love the idea of it. Safe, reliable taxi services are like gold dust in many cities with unscrupulous taxis ready to prey on unsuspecting weekend warriors.
We'll let you know as soon as it goes live.
