Window 7 is not exactly a darling OS of the tablet world. Although, there are a couple of tablets floating around with Win7, but Microsoft is planning to make a splash in the tablet arena with its Windows 8 OS. Win 7 has often been dismissed as a mouse and click operating system, but Microsoft may make amends with Win 8 which is expected to be touch-command friendly. The company is said to have unleashed an army of around 1,000 engineers to work on ARM-based Win 8 tablets.
If some rumors are to be believed and if Microsoft is on the right track, then you can expect to lay your hands on a Win 8 tablet by the end of this year. Microsoft is also said to be shifting away from Intel and AMD processors and moving towards energy efficient ARM processors. A Morgan Stanley analyst has claimed that Microsoft is "closer to competitive than some realize." New OS is also expected to give better multimedia performance and more efficient battery life.

It will be too late for Microsoft. Google’s Android will have gotten a grip on the market by then, and iPad will have whatever is left
