Spotify Inks Deal With EMI – US Launch A Step Closer

Great news for Spotify as they have signed a deal with EMI for the service to be launched in the US – things seem to be moving a pace with Spotify already signing a deal with Sony a few weeks ago – an official announcement is expect imminently.

Spotify has been fighting tooth and nail to get their amazing music streaming service stateside. The main stumbling block was with the 4 major record labels unwilling to replicate their European deals in the states – this seems to have been overcomed.

Spotify first of all managed to get Sony to sign on the dotted line, and have since taken that deal to the rest of the labels – with EMI now ready to follow suit and sign.

Meanwhile, Warner Music Group chief Edgar Bronfman, Jr. – a longtime skeptic of the service – has softened somewhat.  In a recent earnings call, Bronfman cited Spotify revenues as “meaningful” but not exactly “significant,” perhaps an indicator of licensing interest.  But let’s see how that plays out.

What else?  In the backdrop, Google Music is dangling a possible launch as well; stay tuned.

Let hope that the deals go through and Spotify goes stateside as soon as possible – as for us it’s definitely the future of the music industry.
