Sony have stepped up a gear in their war against hackers. Last night dozens of PS3 jailbreak users were banned from the PlayStation Network.
Sony emailed the warning them to take off the offending software and Jailbreak users who have not successfully removed the offending software from their PS3 consoles have since had their PSN account banned, with the message, “you cannot use the PlayStation Network with this account (8002a227)” being displayed on screen.
Sony released a statement notifying PS3 owners that they are “protecting their business and preserving the honest gameplay experiences.”
This recent development follows Sony's legal action against renowned hacker George ‘Geohot’ Hotz after he cracked open the PS3’s defence against unauthenticated code, leaving the machine open to homebrew and piracy.
Hotz has been ordered by a court to hand over his harddrive
