So this week is MWC, which is the Mobile World Congress, and to that end this week is mainly going to made up of previews of mobile phone and tablets. So if you don't like this sort of tech then it's probably advisable for you to get your coat.
So the engineers at Samsung's skunk works should really give themselves a pat on the back - why I hear you ask - because they have shown of their new Galaxy Tab or as it know 10.1 and we've fallen head over heals for it - it really is better than the current iPad and probably the iPad 2.
Here's the nitty gritty. They've done away with the 7-inch form factor and given it the extra 3 inches, hence the name, and it makes all the difference. The resolution is XWGA - or in normal speak 1200 x 800 - a considerable leap ahead of Apple.
It doesn't just have a better screen - the new screen is part of complete revision and probably the most important aspect is the Android 3.0 Honeycomb a bespoke version of Android built from the ground up to make use of Tablet computing. Expect to find a slicker interface than the gulf sea oil slick. In fact, expect the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to feels more like a computer and less like a smartphone with gigantism.
Around the back of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a whopping 8-mega-pixel camera - it's capable of capturing footage at an impressive 1080p. Which again gives the current iPad a severe high definition bloody noise.
Up front, there's an additional 2-megapixel camera for videoconferences and snapping pictures of your own grinning mug. Samsung has surrounded the camera with a myriad of settings and adjustments.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has "surround sound" inside. There's no information on what's powering it (we suspect Dolby Mobile at work here), and Samsung's announcement was fantastically vague. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has "dual surround-sound speakers" we're told"¦ last time we heard, that was called "stereo".
So we reckon that Apple technicians are running around Cuppertino - hosting meetings with names like "Dam, what can we do to beat the Galaxy Tab 10.1, brainstorming meeting' - they really do have a battle on their hands - if they don't get something that is comparable they've really missed a trick - more on MWC as the week progresses.
What do you think of the new Galaxy 10.1 – and how much would you pay for this tech ?
