So it looks like Apple are seriously considering making the chassis of the new iPad 2 out of Carbon Fibre - a move that would make the device even lighter and sturdier than its predecessor.
According to a Jeremy Horowitz, editor-in-chief of iLounge, says that an unnamed source has told him that the company has already produced shells for the iPad 2.
Apple applied for a patent last November for a 'reinforced device housing', one of which it has suggested would be the case for the new, yet to announced, iPad 2.
It also mentions that certain metals may be used, which would be essential in the case of the iPad’s.
The decision to use some form of Carbon Fibre would be a double-edged sword as it would save on weight but isn't environmentally friendly because it uses proxy resin and fibres that cannot be recycled.
What do you think of Apple using Carbon Fibre ? Do you think it would make it look more desirable? Let us know below.

Doesn’t make sense for apple to use a material that isn’t Eco friendly. Over the coming years liquid metal will be the chosen material – that’s why they are already developing it.
Interesting. If they do I’d like to see one, I think they would look quite nice. For the eco friendly side, I’m not sure if this is going to put many people off at all. There may be a “ho-ha” from the eco guys, but if your given a choice ie. you could buy a carbon fibre one or a metal of some kind one it would satify both ends. Maybe make the carbon fibre a limited addition one and only make a small amount of them compared to making them all carbon fibre.
Epoxy resin.
i dont think they will use carbon fibre
