The Super Bowl is one of those peculiar sporting events where it seems like the media make a fuss about everything but the game itself. Even those who know nothing about American Football will be familiar with the Super Bowl because of the infamous Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction.
This year we've had such delights as Aguileramessing up the lines of the national anthem and a PlayStation phone advert.
Despite everybody knowing that it's coming, despite leaked pics, Sony has been cagey about confirming the so-called PlayStation phone. It didn’t even mention it at CES last month.
Why? Because it was planning a big reveal via a Super Bowl commercial.
Confirming that the Xperia Play (as it is officially known) will be rocking on Android, the ad featured the tag-line, “Android is ready to play.”
The Play will come equipped with Android 2.3, a 4.2-inch screen, a 1 GHz processor, and a digital camera.
And that's not the end for Sony. As well as the Xperia Play, Sony will also be rolling out an app for all Android 2.3 phones later this year, allowing people even without a Sony device to play classic PlayStation games and other mobile games designed specifically for Android.
The Super Bowl commercial did not give away the price though, so that's the next thing we'll be keeping our ears to the ground for.
