After taking a tough stance against censorship in China and elsewhere, Google itself is trying soft censoring of its search functions.Apparently, if you type in words such as 'BitTorrent', 'uTorrent' or just plain old 'Torrent', Google's autocomplete feature won't kick in and you will have to complete the word on your own. While, surely it is not the end of the world for Torrent lovers, but, sure the concerned companies have taken note. Simon Morris, a BitTorrent VP, has said, "We're pretty confident that anyone typing the first six or seven letters deserves the same easy access to results as with any other company search."
Interestingly, if you complete the word, then Google will again come to your help with search query suggestions. Piracy is certainly becoming a big problem. According to the latest count, various piracy sites garner about 53 billion visits a year. While, we agree that piracy is an anathema and should be controlled, but we would prefer to make our moral decisions. What is your take? Would you mind if Google starts filtering piracy websites? Let us know.
