Apple App Store has just hit the 10 billion download mark and the closest competitor Apple has got is Android Market. Google is now looking to expand the reach of its Market and looks like the Market would now be coming to Google TV devices as well. Although, the exact date has not been announced but tentatively you may expect to access App Market via Google devices at some time in March or April.
Google would also be installing some additional filters to weed out Android applications and it will also stop users from downloading the apps with touchscreen requirements. So, in essence, you would be able to download only the apps which would work with non-touchscreen systems. Google TV hasn't met with much success, but looks like the introduction of apps and games to the TV ecosystem may turn the tide for the device.
Google TV had been lagging behind Apple TV and the introduction of App store may also make it more competitive. However, it would be interesting to see how Apple responds to this move.

I don’t see how you can say that Google TV is lagging behind Apple TV – they aren’t even in the same class of device. Apple TV is only a VOD device that allows you to stream content. My Logitech Revue w/ Google TV is so much more than that. It allows me to search my DVR/TV guide, VOD offerings, Youtube and the entire web in one seamless interface. Add in the fact that I only paid $179 for it through work (DISH Network – and they sell it for the same price to their customers) and I’m golden. Probably best purchase I’ve made in all of 2010.
