You know how it is, you're playing around with your smartphone, reading something and then, smack! You walk into a lamppost and then you turn up to work extremely embarrassed with a bloody nose.
These hideous scenarios are exactly why the smartphone exists. A funky little piece of technological ingenuity (which will be familiar to Galaxy S owners) can ensure that you never bump into another lamppost again.
This futuristic and quite frankly awesome idea is to overlay text on a live view via the phone’s camera feed so that you can both read text on your phone and see where you are going at the same time.
And now the iPhone is getting in on the action. MegaReader a cool e-reading app has made it into the VIP club of apps that is the App Store and is now on version 2.1, a version which has added Heads Up Display capability.
Its function is to make your iPhone appear transparent, which is achieved by relaying camera images of what’s behind the phone to its front. Check out a video of the app in action below.
What do you think? Some may find it a bit, as old Dizzy would say, 'bonkers.' but for me these clever little ideas are what makes smartphones so useful. You can cram them full of features but at the end of the day it's these smart little apps that can really make a difference.
Maybe an E-reader is a bit too much. Not many people would walk down the highstreet reading the latest Steven King, but imagine texts and emails (which you do read on the go) over live imaging. This is the future!
