RIM have found themselves locking horns with many countries including India, Saudi Arabia and the U.A.A over various legal disputes. Much of the friction stems from the Eastern fear of the wicked West which BlackBerry's bring to their people.

According to Reuters Indonesia is the latest country to put RIM atop of its hit-list.

Indonesia’s Communications and Information Minister Tiffatul Sembiring had threatened to block RIM’s Internet service if the Canadian firm failed to block access to pornography by January 21.

Sembiring has been described as a “firebrand Islamic conservative” who has also told RIM that it should “set up servers in Indonesia, employ more locals and pay the Indonesian government” rather than the Canadians who own the company.

And after meeting with Indonesian government officials, Gregory Wade, director of Asia Pacific for RIM said that the company is committed to come up with something that “satisfies the requirements.”

That's right RIM bow down to everyone as long as profits aren't affected.

Would RIM be so understanding of 'Firebrand Christians' asked to ban porn? This isn't about preserving religious morals or culture, it's purely political and big companies should not be so easily bent by the hands of power.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
