Create Your Own Music Box and Send it to Your Friends.

Remember the Mangum Gold online advert? Well if you don't, it was basically 'a promo for a (fictional) film' and the lead character was you! In other words you uploaded a mugshot of yourself which was superimposed over the lead actor.

It was a great advertising campaign because it was great fun. Thousands of people had a whack, and sent it out into the world of social networking, of course spreading the word about Wall's latest icy snack in the process.

It's become a popular little technique and now it's been taken up by Asus who are advertising their fantastic new SonicMaster laptop (which is specially designed for music fans.)

I had a go on the game which you can find here. This is what I did (using the default pictures in order to preserve my dignity.)

1. Choose my box. I went for Indie Bass, though I was tempted for the Lady Ga Ga inspired Pop Diva box.

2. Uploaded and cropped a photo of my head/face.

3. Recorded a message. My message being the bass riff from Shadowplay by Indie legends Joy Division since I had my bass guitar at hand. The majority of people will likely sing the chorus of a Black Eyed Peas song or shout something highly witty such as 'You're mother stinks.'

4. I wrote a message: 'Remember the good old days.' And sent it to my old band (who used to cover the aforementioned tune.)

5. Then as most things end these days, the final step was uploading to Facebook.

Go and get involved and have a go. I managed to find a purpose (infecting my old band with nostalgia in the hope of a Jam.) You may also be creative with your 'Music Box' or you may just tell your friends their Mother stinks and their Dad wears Noel Edmonds shirts; either or.

And since this is sort of the whole point of all this at the end of the day, here's a look at what Asus are trying to flog.

The SonicMaster features:

-The World's first laptop with polished aluminium exterior

-The World's first dual touchpad located at  both sides of the keyboard

-Speakers outside the LED screen to give high-impact audio

-A unique symmetrical design

-Core i7 processor

And a whole host of other top-of-the-range specs. You may think I say this about all laptops but this one really does look absolutely fantastic and I would personally buy it in the blink of an eye.

And I think laptops are on their way out soon to be replaced by tablets, but Asus have very cleverly refused to churn out the same old Laptop until it stops selling and have instead completely reinvented the good old portable machine.

With its core selling point being its emphasis on unheard of laptop sound quality it's bound to do well because we've all had a good old moan about how crap the sound quality is on Laptops at some point or other. To be honest The SonicMaster is well overdue.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
