Comcast bringing live streaming to iPad and Android tabs

Comcast is promising in-home streaming this year on the iPad and Android devices, allowing users to watch live and on-demand content anywhere in the home.

The upcoming bunch of online enhancements and app releases are part of an effort to reinvent how customers interact with their entertainment on TV, online and on mobile devices.

Future releases of the app will include access to social networking sites, so customers can share what they're watching with their friends in real time, as well as a ‘MyTV’ feature allowing users to send friends personal recommendations.

” You could watch the news to get weather and traffic updates in any room while you’re getting ready for work. You could watch a program on the porch or in some quiet corner in your home,” says the company’s chief blogger, JT Ramsay.

Watch a program on the porch? I mean live-content streaming seems great but Ramsay is just not selling it to me. There's something a bit creepy about the thought of someone hunched up in an alcove watching Eastenders.

Anyway moving on. Oh wait he's got some more ideas for us…

“Or you could watch a cooking show in the kitchen with your pots and pans and spices handy. In other words, your tablet can be magically transformed into a personal TV set you can carry all around your home.”

Thanks Ramsay.

The company’s also adding the ability to stream on-demand content to its Xfinity TV iPad app. It’s got nearly 3,000 hours of content available already, with ‘thousands’ more programs and movies promised later this year.

And another new feature is the ability to use a tablet like a remote control to search for programs and to change channels via XfinityTV.com.

So there you have it.

Excited?

Just came across this posting and wanted to comment on a few things. It’s cool that Comcast is coming out with their own version of “TV Everywhere,” but I’m truly not that excited about it. I work with DISH Network and as a current subscriber, I feel that DISH did a great job with there version of tv everywhere. I have the sling adapter, and unlike Comcast, I can view live TV outside of my house with my phone. That’s what my TV at home is for! :)

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
