2010 has been a big year for Facebook, and thanks to research by Experian hitwise, it has been revealed that Facebook has been the most searched term on the internet this year, obtaining the title for the second year in a row for the social networking site.

The research which listed the top 1000 search terms of 2010 found that the term "Facebook" accounted for 2.11% of all searches on the internet.

It doesn't end with just that though, as in the list's top 10, there were three other Facebook related searches including; Facebook login, Facebook.com, and www.facebook.com. All four together made up 3.48% of all searches.

In the top 50 Facebook related searches managed to account for 4.18% of all searches.

Also, for the first time Facebook has been the top-visited website in the US, making up 3.48% of all searches there - an increase of 207% from last year.

Facebook has exploded in popularity over the last two years, but will 2011 show us the next big thing or will this be a long-recurring pattern for Facebook?

Just goes to show how millions of thick people (the sort of people who can’t live without facebook) can’t even hazard a guess at the correct URL, don’t know how to enter a URL or don’t know how bookmarks work.

There should be an exam that you need to pass before you are allowed online!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
