The 3DS fun for all the family right?
Wrong.
Nintendo has reportedly issued a statement warning that the 3DS portable gaming device, should not be used by children under 6 when the gadget is in 3D-viewing mode because the eyes of children under 6 have not yet fully developed and the 3D mode could disrupt this development.
There's going to be some disappointed five year olds come 2011 but you've got to congratulate Nintendo for looking out for the safety of their consumers. It's almost definitely to avoid a barrage of frivolous law suits but it's nicer to pretend that the Japanese gaming company genuinely cares about the development of the eyes of children.
Whether to avoid being sued or to save the sight of the youth, Nintendo are taking the safety risks posed by 3D seriously. In fact it's said to be the reason they added a 2D mode to the new portable device.
Over sixes aren't free from the danger of 'eye damage' either. The statement also advises older players to take a break after 30 minutes of 3D viewing on the device (as opposed to a break after an hour of 2D play.)
But let's be honest no one's going to listen to the warnings anyway.
