Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been named Time magazine's "Person of the Year" today for "creating a new system of exchanging information" and "changing how we all live our lives."
Just to make it clear though, this isn't hero of the year. Time's Person of the Year is a measure of influence. So using this logic, like him or not Assange was considered but wikileaks was deemed less influential than Facebook. (Lady Gaga, and Steve Jobs were also in the running for this year's top-spot.)
But with more than 500 million users and a blockbuster film, it's hard to argue with Time's decision.
Time's first person of the year was Charles Lindbergh, the aviator who made the first solo trans- Atlantic flight.
Time's result is another nod to the growing influence that technology has over the world and a sign that Facebook is a lot more than a simple social-networking site, but a cultural revolution.
