PlayStation 3 streaming service has augmented its portfolio and now you can watch Channel 4 and ITV over your gaming console. The 4oD services are expected to go operational this week and would be available to users with broadband access. BBC iPlayer is already included in PS3 portfolio.
ITV had long been mulling joining PS3 bandwagon but was reluctant to distribute its content online through third party products. Both ITV and Channel 4 have conceded that on-demand TV is expected to grow at a fast pace and is likely to be a growth driver for TV industry. Channel 4 also alluded that it was interested in striking the deal with Xbox 360 too.
ITV, on the other hand, had rejected deals with Hulu and YouTube. Both these services are based out of the US but are looking to make a UK debut. ITV had been facing constant decrease in the demand for its content. ITV is expected to make its programs such as Coronation Street available for internet TV viewing.
According to Sony, there are about 4 million PS3 gaming consoles in the UK. About 80 percent of these consoles have access to broadband and thus are able to use on-demand services.
