Despite many people likely being frustrated by how late Android 2.2 Froyo has been coming out on some smartphones, I’m sure there are still plenty of you looking forward to 2.3 Gingerbread. So far we know very little about what devices will be receiving the Gingerbread treatment (bar the Nexus Phones) or when, but HTC have spoken of their plans regarding the upcoming Google OS update.
Electric Pig asked an HTC spokesperson about their plans for Gingerbread, and got the response; “We are excited about the OS update coming for Android, and while HTC will definitely have some phones running this OS, we do not have a specific timeframe for new phones or updates at this time. Please stay tuned for more details.”
So it seems we’re still kept quite in the dark on the matter, but picking up on the plural of “phones” we can at least look forward to some HTC phones getting the Android 2.3 update.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is set to be released in the coming weeks is set to be running faster than it’s predecessors, as well as featuring internet phone call support. The newest Google OS is also going to include one of the features brought to 2.2 by HTC which was Google Maps’ offline caching. Here’s to hoping HTC will bring something else new to the upcoming OS when it is overlaid with HTC Sense, and also the possibility of Gingerbread coming to some devices before 2011.
