RIM have given an insight into the future of their BlackBerry smartphones. Speaking at the Dive Into Mobile conference last night in San Francisco, RIM’s co-CEO Mike Lazaridis confirmed that the QNX operating system will eventually be used to power smartphones across RIM’s range.
“By focusing on the tablet market, we see an opportunity to see where the smartphone can go. When we have multi-core processors across the board, they’ll all be running the PlayBook platform,” Lazaridis said.
RIM have already spoke of QNX moving to their smartphones but this is now an ‘official confirmation.’
The BlackBerry PlayBook is expected to launch in Q1 2011 so I guess we should wait until then and see how it is received before we get exicted about the prospect of its OS jumping onto the BB smartphone range.
