As the competition heats up between BT and Virgin Media in the war against the super broadband, it would appear that Virgin Media are that one step ahead as they have now named their first areas which will be getting the new super fast connection.
The areas include Heckmondwike, Farnborough, Colchester, Barry, S Wales. With Heckmondwike being only a stone throw away from us, this is definitely a great start for Virgin Media up here in lovely Yorkshire.
As well as receiving 100mbs of download speed, the service will also consist of uploads speeds of 10Mbs which makes downloading that altogether easier.
So how much will this service cost? Well after Virgin Media were openly criticised by BT, saying that they were "surprised by the high price", the Virgin Media 100Mb Broadband product will cost, £35 a month when bought with a phone line, or just £45 per month when bought as a sole product, which doesn’t sound too bad at all. However as the service is due to roll out to more places next year and it is estimated that the full roll out will be complete by mid-2012, we will just have to wait and see what the public will decide.
Is your area the first to receive Virgin Media 100Mb? If so will you be signing up to the service or waiting until the full roll out or maybe when BT release their prices? Leave us a comment and let us know…

Tied selling, bah humbug. Once you’ve got a fibre connection, you don’t NEED a phone line.
8 weeks ago it was reported that Virgin would be bringing their 100mb service to my area, I even did the postcode search on their website and it confirmed that I would be getting the 100meg service first. and now that it’s available it seems they’ve decided against it. only allowed 50meg… not gonna complain too much though, still bleedingly fast, and now cheaper too.
this is a glass half full.
