If you haven't heard the latest rumor then let us clue you in. Recently, there were a few articles stating the dangerous effects of WiFi waves on nearby plants. Apparently, a couple of Dutch scientists had deduced that WiFi was particularly bad for deciduous trees and was causing the trees to dies in the urban areas cramming with WiFi. The research was commissioned by the city of Alphen aan den Rijn and was conducted at Wageningen University. The study made some startling claims such as delayed flowering and stunted growth in plants near WiFi access points. The report also stated that Ash trees in close vicinity of WiFi showed damages such as bumps, discoloration and cracks.
However, now the industry itself has come up to defend itself. The Dutch Antenna Agency has tried to deflect the blame by saying that these abnormalities may have arisen due to some plant disease. It also pointed out that other types of plans did not show the negative effects of WiFi.
Not a long time back, we had heard about Cell phone towers killing the birds and now even WiFi is getting negative coverage. The report is not conclusive, though the industry should endeavor to make WiFi as safe as possible.
