Talks between Sony Ericsson and Microsoft have been confirmed as Sony Ericsson France CEO Pierre Perron has said that the two companies have been discussing the possibility of a Windows Phone 7 using Sony Ericsson device. It seems however, the chances of the talks coming to an agreement could be low as Perron told French newspaper Les Echos that “With Windows [Phone] 7, we run the risk of standardization of our smartphones. We would be obliged to fight only on design and price, which we want to avoid” and said that Microsoft’s “vertical approach does not allow us to differentiate ourselves”.
It seems despite Perron’s words the talks between the two companies are continuing, but one side will have to give a lot of leeway to the other if they are to release a device together. As well as their talks with Microsoft, Perron seemed to be willing to speak out about tablet devices, being particularly dismissive of the rapidly expanding market, saying that Sony Ericsson had no intention of beomcing “the 24th” company to jump on the band wagon despite strong mobile phone competitors like Samsung and LG getting involved.
