Sony Ericsson Experia X12 Anzu Specs Reveal No Android 2.3 Gingerbread

A few days ago we told you about the leaked Sony Experia X12 Anzu which excited us as the potential flagship device to Google’s upcoming OS update – Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Unfortunately, it seems that ideal is now out the window, after more specs beyond simply having a picture of the device which was reported to have a 4.3-inch screen have shown that the newest Google OS version will not be already on the device (no CRT TV switch off animation yet then).

This news comes courtesy of Russian reviewer Eldar Murtazin who had managed to get a look at a preview unit at a secret lab. The preview unit reportedly had Android 2.1 installed on it, but was told that the device will be released on Android 2.2 Froyo with Gingerbread coming out as an update later on.

As far as other specs to expect from upcoming Sony Ericsson device; the 4.3-inch display which we mentioned in the last leak is reportedly 854 x 480 LCD touchscreen, and the rumoured 1080p video recording seems to be untrue with the new report saying that the 12-megapixel camera will only be capable of recording 720p video. The handset is apparently using an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor (the same which has been used in the T-Mobile G2 and Desire Z) and early performance testing of the device is reportedly very good.

Eldar also expects Sony Ericsson to be adding their own customization on top of the Android interface, and also seems disappointed in the build of the device as a whole, claiming that although the device feels thinner and lighter than the X10, it also feels cheaper to the touch. The Sony Ericsson Experia X12 Anzu seems a bit hit and miss at the moment, but we’re going to have to wait until a later date when a non-prototype model is reviewed before making any final decisions on the handset.
