It seems Sony may be getting themselves into a very long battle with PS Jailbreak developers and it’s users, as it seems their most recent attempts to block the hacking software in version 3.50 which was forcibly installed if you got the new Medal of Honor game have now become futile.
The fight between Sony and their little USB nightmare the PS Jailbreak, which can easily allow people to copy whole games onto the PS3’s internal hard drive or other external hard drives and then play them without requiring a disc has been going back and forth with Sony attacking users by forcing updates in exchange for having access to the PSN (version 3.42) or forcing an update in exchange for being able to play their fancy new Medal of Honor game (version 3.50). The update which is required to play Medal of Honor is also being stuck on games such Call of Duty: Black Ops and Gran Turismo 5 with the latter being delayed because of this.
Unfortunately for Sony, PS Jailbreak have recently announced that their hacking software now supports firmware version’s 3.42 and 3.50 “and beyond” giving us the impression Sony are going to continue to have a tough time ahead of them with this matter. The PS Jailbreak’s sales are already banned in Australia, but elsewhere the USB dongle is still easy to obtain. It seems for now Sony are going to keep fighting for themselves as opposed to pulling out the lawyer card on PS Jailbreak any time soon, but how will this battle end if it does? Things are likely to get messy either way and hopefully PS3 users who don’t hack their console aren’t negatively effected by it.
