Despite it’s troubles from the start in the US, Apple is reportedly going to announce its in-app advertising feature – known as iAd – for it’s Europe debut. The European arrival has reportedly been delayed twice in the last few weeks as there is supposedly little interest from companies getting involved in the $1 million minimum spend service.

With the initial announcement of the in-app advertising service from Apple, iAds were given much praise for the service, with people thinking it to be something revolutionary for mobile advertising (well I’m sure businesses preferred it as opposed to people who get annoyed by adverts getting in the way). However, it seems interest in the service quickly declined with various agencies digital leaders saying thing such as “They are expensive and a pain to deal with” and “Apple is still figuring out how to sell advertising” about iAd.

One notable example of a missed opportunity from Apple was a $10 million iAd deal with Adidas which was pulled early last month due to Steve Jobs directly interfering with the deal. Adidas supposedly had their creative concepts for the advertising campaign declined by Apple three times. Chanel was also put off using the service for similar reasons. It seems Apple’s heavy control over the content has really put off companies and whether the service can ever pick up without making some big changes is definitely open to speculation.

Regardless, it is expected that two or three campaigns will be running through iAd in Europe on people’s iPhone’s and iPads before the end of the year, with more to come in 2011.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
