Have you ever had the rather bizarre thoughts; “Man, I really wish I could use Android on my iPhone/iPad” or “I wish Apple would release an iPhone/iPad with Android on it”? Well the latter is never going to happen. Sorry. The former however, could be possible sometime in the not-so-far future. It seems some in-development software – currently known as OpeniBoot – is apparently going to be a gateway bringing the possibility of having Google’s Android OS on iOS devices.

Although the software is currently in it’s early stages and may not be ready for a while, but those who are currently developing the OpeniBoot software have released a video (which can be viewed through the link below) which shows OpeniBoot matrixing it’s way into an iPad, with the end result being that the iPad is open for use. The software is effectively an open source version of Apple’s own iBoot. The end result will hopefully be that unsigned code can be put into the device, giving way for something such as the Android OS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

More information regarding the in-development software can be found on the project on the iDroidPrjoect website. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out on any major developments on this.

  • Oooh, Steve jobs probably won’t like this one very much! I wouldn’t want to be in the same building as him the moment he finds out lol

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
