Review: Braun Series 7 – 790cc Electric Shaver – The Perfect Gift

Overview

With Christmas drawing closer and closer we're on a mission to give you the best ideas for all your Christmas gifts. So we thought we would give you the low-down on the Braun Series 7 - 790cc electric shaver. Braun have been a mainstay in the shaver world for over the last 10 years and have consistently believed that their top of the range electric shaver will run rings around any of its competitors and the traditional wet shave.

Shaving is a love-hate affair for most men; there's no denying that the clean-shaven feeling after a good shave can't be matched. But there are pitfalls; the price of diamond tipped razor blades, the length of time it takes to have a good shave and it's always a messy affair with shaving foam going everywhere you don't want it to go.

Review

So, the idea of a clean, quick and effective electric shaver seems like a good idea. But can they seriously compete with the good old-fashioned wet shave? The Braun Series 7 - 790cc electric shaver uses a new "pulsonic technology". This makes the razor head vibrate 10,000 times a minute in a bid to try raise hairs from the skin for a closer and more comfortable shave. The head is built to manoeuvre around tricky areas like the neck, nose and chin. The shaver also uses a very impressive cleaning system, which ensures the shaver is like new every time you go to use it.

We weren't entirely convinced by this fancy new "Pulsonic" technology - but were glad to tell you that it actually works very well. The shave was a lot closer than other electrics with a lot less stray hairs around the neck, these were quickly cleaned up with a second pass. The shaver is a lot more fun than a standard wet shave, the shaver includes loads of cool dials and looks great, especially the impressive cleaning station.

Other notable features include, three different modes which allow you to adjust the intensity of the shave, meaning you can tailor the shave for different parts of your face. One of the ways it produces such a smooth shave is the Optifoil, which has differently sized holes to capture hairs growing in different directions helping to cut them closer.

Once you have finished shaving you simply pop the 790cc into its trendy looking cleaning dock, you have the option of a quick clean or a much deeper clean. Once it has been through a deep clean all hairs, muck and germs are removed by an alcoholic solution leaving the shaver as good as new. The cleaning station also charges and stores the shaver in a neat way, it also includes a built in cable so you can use the shaver plugged in but the most important aspect of the dock is that it looks the part and will be pride of place on any bathroom counter.

We Say

The Braun Series 7- 790cc is quite clearly the Rolls Royce of electric shavers, and that true of the price too - it's £299.99. But this sort of kit is likely to last for several years - meaning it not a bad investment, especially if you factor in the price of replacement razor blades for the top of the range razors. We worked out the after a year a half you would have spent the value of a Braun shaver just on replacement blades - it's expensive, but you'll probably save money in the long run. The Braun Series 7 - 790cc would be a great gift idea for a workingman where being well-groomed is essential.

  • I have had the Braun 720 for a while now i think it shares alot of features with the 790. The pulsonic technology used in the braun series 7 range is amazing, the gentle vibrations are just brilliant love them. It is a great machine and cuts so close i wouldn’t go back to a normal wet shave any more. The linear drive motor lasts for ages and performance levels are just consistant every time. Great buy.
