It seems that Apple have purchased Wi-Gear, the company behind the iMuffs line of Bluetooth headphones designed for the iPod and iPhone.

According to a source speaking to 9to5 Mac, the company plans to leverage the acquisition to develop its own stereo Bluetooth headphones for iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks.

Apple reportedly bought Wi-Gear two months ago. It makes sense as Wi-Gear co-founder Michael Kim has recently started working as an 'iOS Bluetooth Engineer,' how recently? about  two months ago.

Either way Wi-Gear is gone. Their website notes that company has 'ceased operations.' i.e. been gobbled up by Apple.

The purchase of Wi-Gear would follow Apple’s typical acquisition pattern of buying up innovative but small companies, usually for a relatively low price. The acquisitions are usually for technologies and talent, not specific products, though 9to5 Mac’s source says that Apple plans to have the team from Wi-Gear design "a new stereo Bluetooth headset for its iOS devices as well and notebooks."

So, if you want a job at Apple you know what to do. Make a popular accesory and then wait.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
