It seems that most of us at one time or another find it necessary to unlock our mobiles from the shackles of our current provider to move onto new greener pastures. Well, paying a shop or stall to do it for you may now be a thing of the past.

The SimDevil (by PhoneDevil.com) claims to be able to unlock ‘over 992 handset models’, including the Nokia N95, Blackberry Pearl 8100 and the Sony-Ericsson K800i. It is also compatible with a range of USB modems, a full list of supported devices is available at the developers website. It is priced at £9.99 for the standard version that will unlock all these phones, including the iPhone 2G; up to but not including software version 2.0. I can hear all you 3G iPhone owners sighing, but fear not; work is underway on releasing an iSimDevil that will unlock only the new 3G iPhone, though pricing is yet to be announced.

So could this be the product to finally remove the confusion and expense of unlocking your mobile? Let us know in the box below.

  • Too late for me! I’ve already paid £20 to Orange to receive an unlocking code!

But I’ll definitely pass this onto friends and family!

    Great find!

  • What a fantastic gadget!!!! Very impressed. The reviews on their site and eBay are all very positive so I have ordered a couple of them for Xmas presents.

By the way, the link to your forums is broken :)

  • Glad you found it useful James, come back and let us know if it worked for you!

  • I received it on saturday and it works great with my Nokia N95 locked to Orange and the girlfriend’s 6500 slide locked to 3. I work for a phone retailer so i’ll try to test it for a few more phone models when i get a sec.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
