Oh Facebook, just stop being so naughty. Facebook had never been known for its innocence or for its respect towards usersprivacy, but it is still somewhat shocking when the social media company admitted that a data broker had been paying app developers for the identification of user data. Although, it has also said that some developers have been handed six month suspension orders from the site.
Facebook did not name the names but said that it has entered into an agreement with RapLeaf Inc., whereby the company has agreed to erase all the Facebook user IDs it had in its cache. RapLeaf has further agreed to "not to conduct any activities on the Facebook Platform". According to Wall Street Journal, both the companies refused to comment whether Facebook's remark amounts to implicating RapLeaf of being the culprit data broker.
Apparently, Facebook is now implementing a new system which will provide app developers with a unique identifier which may be shared with outsiders anonymously. The new system is due to be released next week and would be mandatory for all apps from Jan. 1, 2011. So, what do you think of this new measure?
