I don’t know about you but I simply can’t live without my mobile phone. Texting, calling my fav buddies, taking pics on my camera phone…I practically use it every minute of the day so it is no wonder that advertising companies are seeing this as a powerful medium to get their message across.
We’ve all received ads from companies on our mobiles wanting us to buy things, but it would seem that a Belgium company called Pumbby is taking it one step further by giving the mobile phone users something back for viewing their ads.
When mobile users sign up to Pumbby online, they simply indicate which network they use and how many ads they are willing to receive per day, out of a maximum of 10. Pumbby then sends those ads as WAP links via SMS, and for each one that gets displayed, it credits the user’s account with EUR 0.44. Users could use these funds to be paid directly into their bank account or used to buy things such as DVDs, books etc…
The service was launched in Brussels last month and it seems to be going well. If all you need to do is view ads, then apart from the fact that you’ll look extremely popular by receiving numerous texts everyday (who cares if they’re unwanted!), you’ll also be getting paid to view them. Some people might think it spamming but if you’re getting paid then sounds good to me so I’ll certainly be looking forward to it when it hits the UK.
