Despite Google's Android 2.2 Froyo taking its sweet time to be available on all Android-packing devices, they seem adamant on having the next version to be released already. The next big version, as many of you Android fans will surely know is expected to be called Gingerbread, but whether this is going to be a big update or not has been yet to be discovered. There have been many speculations around this version being 2.5 or perhaps even version 3.0 of the Google OS.
Well, it seems that Gingerbread may not be a huge change that people may have expected it to be; with new sources suggesting that it may in fact be version 2.3 for Android.
The reason for this speculation of Gingerbread being version 2.3 is thanks to a comment from Google in a Google issues post reading, "Yes. Android 2.3 is a 'major release'" giving the impression this version will be our Gingerbread.
Whether Google is just enjoying sticking all their updates into the 2.X category is a possibility, but could this mean that Gingerbread isn't going to be such a huge change from Froyo at all and just a little patch fixer with minor changes? We're sure to find out soon I'm sure.
