Microsoft has released its new offering, Office 365, which essentially is going to compete heads on with Google Docs. Office 365 isthe cloud version of the traditional MS Office and will provide with online access to MS Office, Exchange Online, Lync Online instant-messaging software and SharePoint Online. The service will use subscription model and is likely to be priced at $24 per-user for large companies, whereas the smaller companies will be expected to shell out $6 per user per month. For light users, the basic email version will be available for $2.
Office 365 is compatible with Office for Mac 2008, however it will offer only Office Pro Plus and Web apps with the service. Office 365 will work with most of the major browsers including Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Yes, of course, It would work with Internet Explorer, too. It is also mobile friendly, so you can run it on your BlackBerry or iPad.
The service is now available in the beta from and will be officially available some time in 2011. Google Docs, watch your back!
