We already know of Angry Birds being probably the most popular game currently on the iPhone, but it seems downloads for the Android version of the game has already passed one million according to Rovio Mobile (creators of the game). No wonder Microsoft want to have it made for Windows Phone 7.
Getting 1 million downloads is impressive, but what's really amazing is that this is just after the first 24-hours of its release on the Google OS, a new record in first day app sales for them. The Rovio Mobile official Twitter page had a tweet regarding the sales which said, "Worked out great too (once servers recovered) 1M+ downloads first day."
The servers which the tweet mentions are the servers used to run the app service GetJar, which hosted the game download. Obviously not able to take on the massive traffic coming in when the game was released it must have gone down for a while. It seems the problem was resolved quickly though, considering the success of the first day.
This is very promising news for both Angry Birds and Google, showing other developers of apps the popularity of the OS, and likely making demands from other OS's for Angry Birds higher (trying asking a bit nicer this time Microsoft).
