If you were considering getting any of HyperMac's external Macbook power accessories, well you better make up your mind soon as the company has announced that as of November 2nd 2010, all sales of charging cables and car charger kits will be stopped. This is all thanks to a lawsuit brought upon by Apple against HyperMac's parent company Sanho because they sold Magsafe and iPod chargers without asking for permission (they were just asking for it with this really).
HyperMac will still be selling their external battery packs post-november 2nd, but they will not come with the right cables making them almost useless. With the company trying to get rid of their remaining stock before the date, now is your best time to snatch one up if you're after an external power supply for your Apple devices. It's a shame the suit couldn't be resolved with Sanho still being able to sell the cables.
Well, Apple's lawsuit for the use of the cables comes rather annoyingly to some third-parties, with alternative charging devices being almost exclusive to Apple (coming it at very high costs for what they are). Companies likely see this as a good niche to cover but can do nothing about it.
Below is the press release regarding the matter:
Dear Valued Customers,
As part of our ongoing comprehensive licensing negotiations with Apple regarding a wide array of technologies and issues, we have decided to cease the sale of the MacBook charging cables and car charger on November 2, 2010.
While we will continue to sell the same batteries together with the rest of our product line after November 2nd, they will not be able to charge MacBooks without the cables.
If you wish to get the world's ONLY external battery and car charger solution that works with ALL MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (supports dual voltage) as well as the iPad, iPhone 3/3GS/4, iPod and all other USB devices, NOW is the time.
On November 2, 2010 00:00 U.S. Pacific Time, they will gone for good.
As we have very limited stocks, do order early to avoid disappointment. We will continue to sell until November 2nd and while stocks last.
We wish thank the many customers who have already gotten the HyperMac External MacBook Battery and those of you that gave us wonderful reviews
