Angry birds was a simple iPhone game but now its seems it's becoming a cultural phenomenon. It's practically the next tertris, or the digital version of a rubix cube except rather than colours and puzzles, it all birds at pigs (and a catapult.) First it broke all of the records on the Apple App Store in the past 10 months, selling more than 7 million copies. Then it was annoucned that the game was to spin out into a franchise of movies and mechandise.
And now obviously the next logical step, business wise for Rovio; is expanding its market range and thus the app is jumping to Android and will be up and running on google handsets in the very near future. On the side, there's also 20 plush toys of its bird characters coming out just before Christmas.
The Android version of the game will be released on GetJar, the indie mobile app store who will have a 24-hour exclusive on the Android title and then the game will be available on Google's own Android Market over the weekend.
I'd hazard a guess that this is the sign of things to come. App wise, we'll be seeing a lot of developers expanding from IOS to Android and in terms of 'Angry Bird' by next year we'll no doubt be seeing it everywhere, an Xbox live Arcade version?, a BlackBerry version? It all seems likely now.
