It seems after an unsuccessful attempt by Virgin Media to get into the music subscription game with record labels not willing to work with them, the company seem to have set their eyes on free music streaming service Spotify to form a partnership which is expected to be sorted very soon. This partnership seems to be Virgin Media's best option after being turned down by some of the biggest record labels around including; Sony Music, Warner Music and EMI.

The money Spotify could potentially make from a deal with Virgin Media could definitely aid the company with their own problems with various labels which are demanding more revenue for the songs they are hosting for free listening.

Rumours of the deal have come from The Telegraph which quotes an unnamed "source close to Spotify" which say that "Spotify and Virgin Media are close to concluding a partnership deal. The finer points are net known but Spotify will be offering new tools and content exclusively to Virgin customers as part of the arrangement". Unnamed sources are a bit of a pain (since there are no repercussions for misinformation) but this partnership is still looking like it could be a strong possibility.

When questioned on the matter both companies are keeping tight-lipped on any association at this time, although Spotify have said they are talking to "a range of internet service providers". More news on the matter may emerge for soon, but for now we can just try speculating how a partnership with Virgin Media or any 'internet service provider' could change the service for better or worse.
