After some rumors, Dell has finally confirmed that it has killed Android 2.1 update for Streak. Now the device would be gettingAndroid 2.2 or Froyo directly. Streak would be getting Froyo makeover before the end of the year, and if we are any lucky, it actually should happen sometime early December. Since, the 2.1 update has been cut short, we are thinking that Froyo is not too far away. However, Dell has refused to give any concrete detail.
Although, we believe that Dell should get Froyo as quickly as possible, since Gingerbread is already in the works and once Gingerbread is out, people are not going to like the stale taste of Froyo much. Streak, in any case, needs to get rid of Android 1.6 it is currently running. Streak has been receiving pretty good reviews. Although, given its price points, not many are considering it to be an iPad killer. However, no one is countering the fact that some Froyo treatment is going to do a lot good for this device. What is your opinion?

I have been running the streak for a few months now, android 1.6 is reasonably solid but is lacking the bells & whistles that Froyo will give it. The main issue with the device & it seems to be the case with most devices of this ilk is the battery life is fairly shabby. It seems that there will never be an iPhone killer, not because the hardware or OS isn’t up to scratch, but because no one can market quite like Apple.
Example, iPhone 4 has known issues & is in reality a lemon, yet people are still buying it with a religious fervor. All in all the Dell streak is awesome as a gen 1 device, Froyo is bound to make it so much better.

I have been runniing the streak on 2.1 the failed update, I was one of the lucky ones in that I have only one problem with 2.1 and thats the wifi policy doesnt work. I personally am looking forward to 2.2 and I hope that it will fix the minor problem that I have.
